LTC Christopher C. Corbett
Professor of Military Science
Lieutenant Colonel Corbett hails from Massachusetts, the winning State of Champions, home of the Boston Red Sox, the New England Patriots, and the 17-time World Championship Celtics. He enlisted as a Stinger (MANPADS) Gunner in June, 1989 and served in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm with the 3rd Battalion, 5th Air Defense Artillery (Chaparral/Stinger) from 1990-1991 in Germany, Saudi Arabia and Iraq. He commissioned from the Officer Candidate School in 1992.
He has served in a variety of command and staff positions. His previous assignments include Deputy Chief of the Multi-National Corps - Iraq Joint Fires Cell for Counter-Rocket, Artillery, and Mortars, Operation Iraqi Freedom, 2008; Battalion Operations Officer and Executive Officer, 2-6 ADA Battalion, 2006-2008; Assistant Professor, Department of English, United States Military Academy, 2001-2004; Commander, Echo Battery, 2-43 ADA Battalion (Patriot), Fort Bliss, Texas and Kuwait, 1997-1999, during Operation Desert Fox combat operations; Plans Officer and Tactical Director, 108th ADA Brigade, 1996-1997; Fire Control Platoon Leader, Bravo Battery, 6-43 ADA (Patriot) Battalion, Ansbach, Germany, 1992-1995.
His military and civilian education includes the German Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Hamburg, Germany; the US Army’s Combined Arms Services and Staff School; and the ADA Advanced and Officer Basic Courses. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in English from Bridgewater State College, Massachusetts, and he holds a Masters of Arts in English from the University of Rhode Island.
His decorations and awards include the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Parachutist and Air Assault Badges, and the German Armed Forces Missile Proficiency and Military Proficiency Badges.
Lieutenant Colonel Corbett is married to the former Ms. Susan DiNocco – who also hails from Boston, home to the five-time Stanley Cup winning Bruins. They have two boys, Christopher (age 15) and Jonathan (age 13).

CPT Titus
MS3 Instructor / Training Officer
I am CPT Daniel Titus, the MSIII instructor and Assistant Professor of Military Science at the University of Akron’s Army ROTC. I am responsible for preparing MSIII’s for the Leaders Development and Assessment Course at Fort Lewis, Washington. They must graduate the course as a requirement to receive their commission in the US Army.
I am originally from Macedonia, Ohio, and graduated from the University of Akron in 2003 with a BA in Sociology, also receiving my commission as a Field Artillery Officer.
I have been stationed in Germany and Fort Sill, Oklahoma. While in Germany I had the opportunity to be an MLRS firing Platoon leader, Support Platoon Leader, and Battery Executive Officer. I have served in Iraq twice, in OIF I as a Platoon leader, and OIF V as a military transition team(MiTT) Fires and Effects advisor, as well as an Operations advisor, to the Iraqi Army. I arrived here in Akron in May of 2008
I enjoy reading ancient history, philosophy, as well as modern and older classics, continually developing my physical fitness, and spending time with my family.
I live in Norton with my wife Katie and my Boxer dog.

CPT Smitley
Scholarship and Enrollment Officer
My name is CPT Smitley. I am the Scholarship and Enrollment Officer and work with current and future cadets to find a way to pay for college and earn a commission. I am originally from Apple Valley, Minnesota and moved to Ohio in 2006 with my husband. I graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1999 and was commissioned as an Aviation Officer. I was stationed at Fort Drum, NY, Fort Rucker, AL, and Camp Humphreys, Korea and also served in Afghanistan. I enjoy reading, watching movies, running, doing triathlons and playing with our cat and dog.

MSG Conway
Senior Military Instructor
I am MSG Conway and I am the Senior Military Instructor for the 42d Ohio Volunteers Battalion. My primary duties and responsibilities include validating, coordinating and general overview of training for all of the cadets attending ROTC through the university. I am a secondary instructor for the junior cadets. I look forward to training and producing first line leaders for tomorrows Army and our support on the Global War on Terrorism.
I recently joined the University this fall after spending 6 years at Fort Lewis in the 3rd and 4th Stryker Brigade Combat Teams. While stationed at Fort Lewis, it was an honor to lead and serve as Platoon Sergeant and company First Sergeant. Prior assignments include Fort Hood, TX, Fort Campbell, KY, Schofield Bks, HI, Fort Bragg, NC and Fort Benning, GA. I enlisted in the US Army in October, 1990 as an Indirect FireInfantryman and have held every leadership positions from squad member all the way up to First Sergeant. I have deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Uphold Democracy and supported UN missions in Mongolia and Haiti.
I have been a military member my entire life, travelling all over the world. I consider Puyallup, WA as my home of record. I have two sons, ages 14 and 15. During my off time, my sons and I enjoy snowboarding, cycling, hiking, and motorsports. I also enjoy sport bike racing, flying and hunting.
My short term goals are completion of my bachelor's degree and successful graduation of my two sons from high school. I would also like to complete my private pilot's license. Long term goals will be determined once I have finished growing up

SFC Rouse
MSI Instructor/ Assistant Training NCO
I am SFC Rouse, the MSI Instructor and assistant Training NCO for the 42nd Ohio Volunteer Battalion. I joined the team here in August 2008. I joined the big team (US Army) in Feb 1994 as a cavalry scout. I am very proud of my cavalryman lineage and have had opportunities to serve throughout the world. I have deployed on peacekeeping operations to Bosnia and Kosovo with 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment and 1st Armored Division. In 2003, while serving as a Senior Scout in a Brigade Recon Troop, we deployed to Iraq. I returned in April this year from a 15 month deployment to Afghanistan where I served as a Platoon Sergeant with the 82nd Airborne Division. I have also had the privilege to serve as a Drill Sergeant at Ft. Knox.
I am married with two kids. My wife and I are both from eastern Ohio and were very happy to return for this assignment. My time off is usually spent doing just about anything outdoors.

Ms. Davis
Human Resources Assistant
I am Ms. Davis and I’m the Human Resource Assistant, which means I’m the person who handles all the paperwork involved with scholarships, commissioning of new officers, and ensuring cadets’ administrative needs are met. I have worked in the Department of Military Science since June of 2005. I have held a variety of federal government positions for the past 20 years. So, I am the resident expert at managing the battalion’s Army paperwork. My favorite part of the job is taking care of these young college students. After a while, they start to feel a little like my own kids. I currently live in Warren, Ohio and am the proud mother of two daughters and I also have a grandson.

Ms. Welling
Administrative Secretary
I am Ms. Welling, the Administrative Secretary for the 42nd Ohio Volunteer Battalion. I have been with The University of Akron since August of 1997 and have also worked with Kent State University, Portage County Commissioners and Kent City Schools. I have worked with local schools and colleges since May 1989. My primary job is to work as an assistant to LTC Young. I have been responsible for the budget, coordinating the Veterans Day Ceremony, planning Commissioning each semester and the President’s Award Ceremony, maintain class scheduling and assist the cadets with projects when they request my help.
My husband, and I have three children, one granddaughter and another one due in July. I am very active in local and state organizations’ which does not leave me a lot of “free” time.

Mr. Skrzynski
Supply Technician
I am Mr. Skrzynski and I am a Department of Defense employee working for the University of Akron ROTC program. My primary job is to coordinate all logistical operations within the ROTC program. I live in Youngstown and I am one of the newest members of the cadre accepting this job in June 2006 after retiring from National Guard after 35 years. I served in the National Guard from 1971-2006. During that time I was on active duty with the National Guard from 1984-2006. I served as a Supply Sergeant from 1984-2002 with the 838th Military Police Company in Youngstown and from 2002-2006 I was a Battalion Supply Sergeant with the 112th Transportation Battalion located near the Akron-Canton Airport. I was deployed and served in support of “Operation Desert Storm”. My military career gave me the opportunity to travel and see such places as Alaska, Japan, Germany, Italy, Austria and many states within the U.S. I earned my Bachelors Degree in Education graduating from Youngstown State University in 1977. I have a 13 year old son and enjoy playing golf, baseball, and attending Youngstown State football games.
