Prairie View A&M University has a long and proud tradition of military instruction dating back to 1943. Prairie View A&M is the only Historically Black College and University in the entire state of Texas that hosts an Army ROTC program. This too speaks well of our long military traditions of quality and excellence. Simply put, we produce top quality officers. Army ROTC here at Prairie View is a program which can enhance your education by providing unique leadership training and management experience. It helps you develop the qualities necessary for success in either military or civilian career. Students are given a valuable opportunity to build for the future by earning a college degree and an Army Officer's commission at the same time.

Battalion History
Prairie View A&M University has a long and proud tradition of military instruction dating back to 1943. Prairie View A&M is the only Historically Black College and University in the entire state of Texas that hosts an Army ROTC program. This too speaks well of our long military traditions of quality and excellence. Simply put, we produce top quality officers. Over the last 62 years, Prairie View's ROTC program has commissioned nearly 1,400 officers, many of whom have reached the highest ranks in military services or achieved great success in civilian endeavors.

Faculty and Staff
Prairie View ROTC staff pride themselves on maintaining a quality learning environment for the “Future Warrior Leaders.” This task is accomplished by providing a highly qualified staff with a variety of technical and tactical expertise.

Cadet Profiles
The Army ROTC Cadets at Prairie View come from all walks of life and have many of the same interest that you do. Cadets at Prairie View maintain a normal academic schedule just as their peers. Army ROTC Cadets fall into many different categories. First there are the scholarship cadets; Second the Non-Scholarship Cadets; Third there are those Cadets that serve or have served in the Uniformed Services (Prior Services). Lastly there are those Cadets that participate in the “Simultaneous Membership Program” (SMP). The SMP Cadet serves in the Army National Guard or Army Reserves as an Officer in training. Army ROTC Cadets at Prairie View are also involved in a variety of extracurricular activities. These activities include community service to the surrounding area, Student Government, fraternities/sororities, athletics, and not to mention honors societies.

Alumni Profiles
Prairie View A&M is extremely honored to have 7 of its alumni to reach to the rank General Officer. The highest rank achieved to date is Lieutenant General. Many of our alumni go on to have successful civilian careers following military service.
