Combat Water Survival Skills Training
Cadets are introduced to many different types of training. Here they are practicing water survival skills. Those who are not comfortable or proficient in the water learn to overcome their fears.
Growing up in a rural area in Virginia, I never had the opportunity to work with or even become friends with people from other cultures. At ROTC I have learned so much and made friends with so many different people. It has been an awesome experience.

Events and Activities

ROTC Offers Many Opportunities to Excel

In Army ROTC, it's not all classroom and field training. There are many opportunities for you to get to know your fellow cadets better and increase your skills in a variety of areas. Learn more about these events and activities below.

Ranger Challenge

The Ranger Challenge is an opportunity for schools to "compete" with each other completing military tasks. In addition to a written examination where Cadets test their Army knowledge, there are physical fitness drills and field exercises. Battalions leave a Ranger Challenge with stronger bonds and sharper skills.

Pershing Rifles

The National Society of Pershing Rifles gives Army ROTC Cadets the opportunity to develop to the highest degree possible. Cadets can take part in precision trick rifle drill teams that provide them with the outstanding traits of leadership, military bearing and discipline.

Commissioning Ceremony

Each year senior cadets are commissioned into the United States Army as Second Lieutenants in a ceremony attended by families, friends, University Officials and other distinguished guests. The ceremony marks the transition from Cadet to Officer and is a significant milestone in the life of every cadet.

Physical Training

Physical training is part of a cadet's curriculum.  They not only participate but learn how to teach others in physical fitness training.  A strong mind and body is essential for success in the program.
