ROTC Offers Many Opportunities to Excel
In Army ROTC, it's not all classroom and field training. There are many opportunities
for you to get to know your fellow cadets better and increase your skills in a variety
of areas. Learn more about these events and activities below.

Ranger Challenge
The Ranger Challenge is an opportunity for schools to "compete" with each other
completing military tasks. In addition to a written examination where Cadets
test their Army knowledge, there are physical fitness drills and field exercises.
Battalions leave a Ranger Challenge with stronger bonds and sharper skills.

Pershing Rifles
The National Society of Pershing Rifles gives Army ROTC Cadets the opportunity
to develop to the highest degree possible. Cadets can take part in precision
trick rifle drill teams that provide them with the outstanding traits of
leadership, military bearing and discipline.

Ranger Challenge
During the Fall Semester, Cadets participate in the 5th Brigade Ranger Challenge. The teams consist of 6 Cadets plus 1 alternative. Some of the events are weapons disassembly and assembly, first aid evaluation/ transportation, Army physical fitness test, land navigation (night and day), written examination (patrolling) and a 10k Road March. The Cadets are able to increase their team building skills as well as their leadership skills.

Islander Challenge
An event hosted by the University ROTC Program to increase awareness of the program to the high schools. The events are lead and prepared by the University’s Cadets. Some of the events include: Army Physical Fitness Test, 3.1 mile Road March, Orienteering, Sand Course, and the Rope Bridge Crossing.

Color Guard
The Color Guard team participates in many ceremonies ranging from military balls to University activities like the Veterans Day ceremony. The Cadets that participate get recognition from the community.
