The Island Warrior Battalion
ROTC training began in South Texas at then Texas A&I University in 1951. The program expanded to then Corpus Christi State University in December 1978 as the Javelina Battalion’s Charlie Company. The company expanded its’ Basic Course instruction to Del Mar College in the spring semester 1984. In 1993, the university changed its name to Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi. Even though the name changed, the mission of ROTC has remained the same; that is to develop the future leaders of our military and this great nation of ours.
In 2006, Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi stood up its own host program as the Island Warrior Battalion and began yet another proud South Texas tradition of military support.
Del Mar College
The Islander Battalion has extended the program to Del Mar College. The program allows the Cadets to participate in the Texas A&M University Corpus Christi ROTC activities as well. When these Cadets graduate, they can later transfer their credits to the university and continue their education in the university and commission.
