	Cadets build a one rope bridge on campus
	Cadets learn how to build a one rope bridge at the University of Louisville before going to a field exercise where they will practice this newly acquired skill along with other survival skills.



	While serving three years both on the line and on a staff in an infantry unit, I met some truly outstanding officers and leaders. I was sufficiently impressed with the presence and character of the Army officer that I committed four years of my life to becoming one. Being a cadet and full-time student are simply steps I must take on the road to becoming a leader in our nation’s armed services.

ROTC Offers Many Opportunities to Excel

In Army ROTC, it's not all classroom and field training. There are many opportunities for you to get to know your fellow cadets better and increase your skills in a variety of areas. Learn more about these events and activities below.

Ranger Challenge

The Ranger Challenge is an opportunity for schools to "compete" with each other completing military tasks. In addition to a written examination where Cadets test their Army knowledge, there are physical fitness drills and field exercises. Battalions leave a Ranger Challenge with stronger bonds and sharper skills.

Pershing Rifles

The National Society of Pershing Rifles gives Army ROTC Cadets the opportunity to develop to the highest degree possible. Cadets can take part in precision trick rifle drill teams that provide them with the outstanding traits of leadership, military bearing and discipline.

Commissioning Ceremony

Each fall and spring several cadets are commissioned into the United States Army during ceremonies held on campus. Families, friends, University Presidents and other distinguished guests take part in the commissioning as well as the ceremonial cutting of the cake.

Ranger Challenge

Each fall several cadets participate in a competition held at Fort Knox. Cadets learn a variety of skills at the University of Louisville before going to a field exercise where they compete with other schools in the region.
