Lieutenant Colonel James P. Shaver
Professor of Military Science
Lieutenant Colonel James P. Shaver graduated from Georgia Southern University and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Infantry in 1987. He began his career as a rifle platoon leader, mortar platoon leader and company executive officer with the 5th Battalion, 6th Infantry Regiment, 5th Infantry Division at Fort Polk, LA from April 1988 to December 1991.
After attending the Infantry Officer Advance Course, LTC Shaver reported to FT Bragg, NC and the 1st Battalion, 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment, 82d Airborne Division, where he served as an assistant battalion operations officer, then as C Company Commander from 1992 to 1994. After company command, LTC Shaver served as the brigade adjutant.
After departing FT Bragg in 1995, LTC Shaver earned a Masters Degree from Long Island University and completed the West Point Tactical Officer Education Program. This was followed by an assignment as a Tactical Officer at the United States Military Academy from 1996 to 1999.
From 1999 to 2001, LTC Shaver was assigned to the 87th Training Support Division, Birmingham, AL where he served as the division training officer.
From 2001 to 2002, LTC Shaver served overseas in the Republic of Korea with the 2nd Infantry Division as a division G3 liaison officer.
After returning from Korea, LTC Shaver was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 502d Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), FT Campbell, KY from 2002 to 2004 as the battalion operations officer and battalion executive officer. During this tour, he spent a year in Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
LTC Shaver commanded the 3rd Battalion, 351st Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 87th Training Support Division, in Florida, from 2004 to 2006. His battalion trained and prepared thousands of Reserve and National Guard troops for overseas deployment in support of the Global War on Terrorism in Iraq and Afghanistan.
LTC Shaver’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart, the Meritorious Service Medal (5 OLC), the Army Commendation Medal (2 OLC), the Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, the Iraqi Campaign Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and the Korean Defense Service Medal. He is authorized to wear the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Expert Infantryman Badge, the Ranger Tab, the Senior Parachutist Badge, the Air Assault Badge, and the Canadian Parachutist Badge.
LTC Shaver is married and has two sons.

MAJ Scott Caldwell
Assistant Professor of Military Science/Executive Officer
Major Scott Caldwell enlisted with the Mississippi Army National Guard in 1991. He attended Basic Training at FT Jackson, South Carolina where he was placed in his first leadership role as a Platoon Guide for his Basic Training Platoon. When he returned home to his unit, B Troop 1/108th Armored Cavalry, he joined the Army ROTC program at the University of Mississippi. Major Caldwell attended Advanced Camp at Fort Lewis, Washington and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in 1993 when he graduated with a Bachelors Degree in English from the University of Mississippi.
Upon his commissioning, Major Caldwell attended the Armor Officer Basic Course at FT Know, Kentucky. After finishing the course, Major Caldwell returned to his unit in Oxford, MS where he served as a Platoon Leader for 1st Platoon, Company A, 2/198th Armor. Major Caldwell also attended the Unit Movement Officer Course in FT Eustis, Virginia and served as the Unit Movement Officer for the 2/198th Armor during the Mississippi Magnolia Rotation to the National Training Center in FT Irwin, California. In 1998, Major Caldwell was transferred to the Executive Officer position for Company C, 2/198th Armor in Sardis, MS. After serving a year as the executive officer for C Company, Major Caldwell was transferred to the Executive Officer for the HHC 2/198th Armor located in Senatobia, MS.
In 2000, Major Caldwell volunteered to serve with Task Force Rifles in their SFOR X deployment to Bosnia-Herzegovina. Major Caldwell led his platoon to a Distinguished Tank Table XII score while mobilizing at FT Benning, Georgia. Subsequently, Major Caldwell was given the honor of being the Tank Platoon leader attached to the Infantry Company stationed at Camp Comanche when the Task Force deployed on September 9, 2001. After serving a six month rotation with Task Force Rifles, Major Caldwell returned home and was transferred to the 154th RTI (Regional Training Institute), Camp Shelby, MS to serve as a TAC (Training, Assessing, and Counseling) Officer for the Officer Candidate School. Major Caldwell completed the Total Army Instructor Trainer Course and served as a TAC Officer and Instructor for the OCS program for the next 2 years.
In 2004, Major Caldwell was offered a Company Command of A Company 2/198th Armor. Shortly after assuming command of Alpha Company 2/198th Armor, Major Caldwell attended the Infantry Captains Career Course at FT Benning, Georgia. After completing his Captains Career Course, Major Caldwell was mobilized and deployed in 2004 for Operation Iraqi Freedom. While in Iraq, Major Caldwell was assigned as a MiTT (Military Training Team) Leader and was responsible for training and professional development of 2 Iraqi Army Battalions. Major Caldwell’s company was also responsible for conducting Civil Affair Escort missions, providing a Battalion Quick Reaction Force (QRF) and providing Convoy Escort.
Upon returning home, Major Caldwell completed his Combined Arms Exercise (CAX) course in Millington, TN and was promoted to his current Rank of Major on April 25, 2007. Major Caldwell is currently assigned as the Inspector General for the 184th Expeditionary Sustainment Command (ESC) and works as an Assistant Professor of Military Science at the University of Mississippi.

MAJ Mike Harlow
ROO
Major Harlow is originally from Grenada, Mississippi and commissioned in the United States Marine Corps as an infantry officer. In 1987 he earned a BSE and in 1997 a MSE in Biology from Delta State University. As a Marine Corps officer he attended the Infantry Officer Course, Over the Horizon Navigation Course, Amphibious Indoctrination Course, and the Selected Leader Advanced Marksmanship Course. As an Army officer he has completed the Field Artillery Branch Transfer course, the Field Artillery Advanced Course, Combined Arms and Services Staff School, the Air Defense Artillery Transition Course, and the Command and General Staff College.
Major Harlow has served in the USMC as a Rifle Platoon Commander in Operation Restore Hope and Continue Hope in Somalia, a Headquarters and Service Company Commander, and tactics instructor. In the Mississippi Army National Guard he served as a Headquarters and Headquarters Battery commander and as the Assistant Operations Officer for an armor brigade. During service in Operation Iraqi Freedom III Major Harlow served as a liaison with the 4th Brigade, 8th Division of the Iraqi Army.
His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, two Army Commendation Medals, two National Defense Service Medals, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Southwest Asia Expeditionary Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal with hourglass device, the Overseas Service Medal, five Army Reserve Component Overseas Training Ribbons, the Sea Service Deployment Medal, the United Nations Medal, and the Joint Meritorious Unit Commendation.
Major Harlow is married and has two children.

Major Andy Field
Training Operations Officer
MAJ Field is originally from Natchitoches, Louisiana and is an infantry officer. He is a graduate of Basic Combat Training, the Medical Specialist course, the Infantry Officer Basic Course, Bradley Fighting Vehicle Leader Course, Scout Platoon Leader Course, Infantry Captains Career Course, Combined Arms and Services Staff School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Northwestern State University in 1996.
MAJ Field has served as a medical specialist, Rifle Platoon Leader, Scout Platoon Leader,Battalion Personnel Officer, Headquarters and Headquarters Company Commander, Basic Combat Training Company Commander, Instructor/Writer, and Small Group Leader.
A veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom, his awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, two Army Achievement Medals, five Army Reserve Component Achievement Medals, two National Defense Service Medals, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal with bronze hourglass and M device, the Army Service Ribbon, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, the Expert Infantryman Badge, the Parachutist Badge, and the German Armed Forced Military Proficiency Badge in gold.
MAJ Field is married and has three daughters.

Sergeant First Class Anthony Bell
Training Noncommissioned Officer
SFC Bell is originally from Greenville, Mississippi and is a cavalry scout noncommissioned officer. He is a 1990 graduate of Norma C. O’Bannon High School. He has attended the Cavalry Scout course, Primary Leadership Development Course, Toxic Agent Training, Combat Lifesavers Course, Basic Instructor Training, Basic Noncommissioned Officers Course, Advanced Noncommissioned Officers Course, Master Fitness Trainer Course, and Drill Sergeant School.
A veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom, SFC Bell has served as a Cavalry Scout, Bradley Fighting Vehicle Gunner, Bradley Fighting Vehicle Commander, Marksmanship Instructor, Drill Sergeant, Platoon Sergeant, and ROTC Instructor.
His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, five Army Commendation Medals, four Army Achievement Medals, two National Defense Service Medals, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, the Drill Sergeant Badge, Expert Drivers Badge, and the Combat Action Badge.

MSG Bradley S. Hardin
Sr. Military Science Instructor
MSG Hardin has completed several military courses including: Infantry One Station Unit Training, Light Fighters phase I and II, US Army Sniper School, Ranger Indoctrination Program, Ranger School, Jungle Expert, Airborne School, Jump Master School, Primary Leadership Development Course, Basic Non-Commissioned Officers Course, Advanced Non-Commissioned Officers Course, Pre-Command Course, Air Assault School, Mountain Warfare; School Summer Phase, Mountain Warfare School; Lead Climber Course, Combat Life Saver’s Course, Tactics Certification Course, Instructor Training Course, Air-load Planners Course, Unit Movement Officers Course, Nuclear Biological and Chemical School, First Line Supervisors Course, Drill Sergeant School, and Bradley Transition Course. MSG Hardin has had 20 years experience as an Active Duty service member. He has had two combat deployments. He has served in support of the global war on terrorism in Iraq once as a Mechanized Infantry Platoon Sergeant and again as a Senior Enlisted Advisor to an Iraqi Commando Battalion. Among his military awards are 6 Good Conduct Medals, a Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, a Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, 2 National Defense Medals, an Iraqi Campaign Medal, 5 Army Achievement Medals, 7 Army Commendation Medals including one for Valor, 2 Meritorious Service Medals, 2 Bronze Stars, a Combat Infantry Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, Air-Assault Badge, Airborne Badge, Canadian Airborne Badge, Ranger Tab, and Drill Sergeant Badge. MSG Hardin’s other accomplishments include 1991 NCO of the Year for 1-21 Infantry, Bradley Top Gun for 1-26 Infantry from August 2004 thru September 2006 and Honor Graduate from the Bradley Transition Course.
