I am an Oregon native born and raised in Seaside, Oregon.  My first time in an airplane was when I joined the Army and went to Basic Training at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. I have spent the last twenty years stationed primarily in the South:  Ft. Bragg, NC, Ft. Campbell, KY, and Ft. Rucker, AL or in South Korea (not including a yearlong detour to Iraq) and I have served in a variety of Aviation, Psychological Operations and Information Operations.   I have really benefited from the travel and educational opportunities provided to me by the Army and have been  blessed to command and serve with American Soldiers.  I enjoy fishing, scuba diving, travel and motorcycles (especially Harley Davidsons but can appreciate everything from a Hyosung 225cc street bike to a scooter to a Gold Wing).  I am glad to be back in Oregon and close to family and friends, and Portland and the Pacific Northwest is a great place to ride!

BIO
I am an Army brat and moved around most of my life until my family settled down in Byng, Oklahoma. In 1986 I joined the US Navy as a Cryptologic Technician Operator and was stationed in Washington DC and then Rota, Spain. Upon completion of my tour in Rota, Spain, I moved to Oregon, joined the Oregon National Guard, and enrolled at Eastern Oregon University. In 1999, I received my commission and began my career in the Oregon Army National Guard. I have deployed to Bosnia and Afghanistan, as well as attended numerous training exercises in Ft. Lewis, Washington; Japan: Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas; Ft. Huachuca, Arizona; Ft. Eustis, Virginia; Gowen Field, Idaho; Ft. Polk, Louisiana; and Camp Shelby, Mississippi. I have treasured each of my experiences from training exercises to deployments. Each mission has always taught me something about myself as well as about others I have trained with or deployed with. The friendships made over the years are truly remarkable. In my spare time, I enjoy reading mystery novels; traveling, horseback riding, photography, and karaoke. I love Oregon (it is so much different than Oklahoma) and am honored to have the privilege of serving in this assignment.

Mr. J. B. Maguire

Administrative Technician

Previous Unit and/or Position:
Administrative Technician, Oregon State University Army ROTC

Academic and/or military education:
B. Sc Communications, West Liberty University; AA Management Information Systems, Portland Community College
Army National Guard Officer Candidate School (OCS); Armor Officer Basic and Advanced Courses; Combined Arms Services and Staff School (CAS3)

After spending parts of the last four decades as both an enlisted Soldier and officer in the Marine Corps Reserve, the Army National Guard, and the Army Reserve, I retired in July 2006 having reached the rank of Major at the 364th Civil Affairs Brigade in Portland. Even as a Reservist, the military has allowed me to travel the globe...Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Japan, and Hawaii.

I worked for a major company in the electrical power generation business for three years before returning to the military as a civilian employee with the Army ROTC program at Oregon State University in February 2009. In January 2010 I had the good fortune of moving to the Army ROTC program at the University of Portland.

I was born in Detroit, grew up in Pittsburgh, and have literally lived all over North America during my civilian career. My wife Candy (an Oregon native) and I moved back to Oregon in 2008 along with another Oregon native, Benny (also known as Sgt. Maj. Benny, the former mascot of the 364th CA BDE, pictured on the right with one of his "doggie day care" buddies, Seymore). Benny just turned 14 years old; although he’s blind, he's still very spunky and frisky. Because of him, we are involved with supporting pet rescue groups such as Oregon Dog Rescue and the Oregon Humane Society.

My hobbies include ice hockey (Let's Go Pens!), the Pittsburgh Steelers, European soccer, aviation and space exploration, current events and foreign languages (German, Russian, and Japanese).
