The UTEP ROTC Color Guard participates in numerous ROTC and UTEP activities. The Color Guard will present the colors in the Military Ball, UTEP home football and basketball games, and usually participates in several parades (Homecoming, Veteran’s Day, Sun Carnival).
“ROTC gave me the opportunity to attend US Army Airborne School. Airborne school taught me to remain strong when my body and mind were weak. I learned to “move on” even though my body was tired. The whole experience taught me how to be physically and mentally tough. I would have never had this experience if it wasn’t for ROTC at UTEP.”

Events and Activities

ROTC Offers Many Opportunities to Excel

In Army ROTC, it's not all classroom and field training. There are many opportunities for you to get to know your fellow cadets better and increase your skills in a variety of areas. Learn more about these events and activities below.

Ranger Challenge

The Ranger Challenge is an opportunity for schools to "compete" with each other completing military tasks. In addition to a written examination where Cadets test their Army knowledge, there are physical fitness drills and field exercises. Battalions leave a Ranger Challenge with stronger bonds and sharper skills.

Pershing Rifles

The National Society of Pershing Rifles gives Army ROTC Cadets the opportunity to develop to the highest degree possible. Cadets can take part in precision trick rifle drill teams that provide them with the outstanding traits of leadership, military bearing and discipline.

Bataan Death March (Marathon)

This event consists of a 26-mile road march through the desert of southern New Mexico at White Sands Missile Range.  An initiative started by our sister ROTC battalion at New Mexico State the competition is conducted in honor of the men that fought, died and survived the Japanese occupation of the Philippines during WWII. Teams will be organized and training for this annual event will begin during each spring semester.  UTEP has a fine tradition of participating in this event.
